Mike Thompson

Senior Vice-President - Global Commercial Strategy & Platforms,
Mike is Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Strategy and Platforms at GlaxoSmithKline.
Working to deliver an effective commercial model, his Platform teams also provide expertise to
the central therapeutic Franchise Groups on Analytics, Payer Solutions, Commercial Processes,
Operations and Multi-Channel.
Previously he spent 7 years as the Commercial Strategy Head for Europe and before that 10
years in the UK Company in a variety of senior sales and marketing roles.
He joined the Company in 1995 having previously worked for Unilever in their food and toiletries
divisions, latterly as a Marketing Director in the UK for household names such as Lynx (Axe).
Moving from sausages to shampoo to Seretide means that he’s ready for any challenge!
He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and at The Queen’s College, Oxford, where
he read Politics, Philosophy and Economics. From 1999 he has been a ‘non-exec’ of The Wine
Society, and from 2011-13, sat on the Board of London & Partners, a company set up by the
Mayor to promote London to tourists, students and businesses.
